Pence from http://retroyakking.today.com/files/2009/01/coin-collecting-pennies.jpgOr about $1.24 in US money: That's how much carers for people with autism are paid an hour, as noted in a report on carers done by the National Autistic Society and reported on 24dash.com. Some more figures about carers in the UK:

• 68% spend over 70 hours a week caring
• 69% had had to give up work because of their caring responsibilities
• 36% said support from other parents and carers had helped them most in their caring role
• 85% feel frustrated
• A third feel proud of their role

Jim and I can say "yes" to all of these, though I'd add another item, that we like caring for Charlie. And (to end this post on a more upbeat note), am very glad that we've found someone new to help with Charlie, and I know there are more people out there.

Who need to be paid a wage commensurate with their work.
