8 against 8What do you get when eight lesbian bloggers stop being polite, and start being real?

No, not an MTV show that jumped the shark after the fourth season. You've got "8 Against 8," an online effort led by some of the blogosphere's most prolific lesbian writers. 8 Against 8 is a coalition of lesbian bloggers organizing to defeat Proposition 8, which would eliminate marriage rights for same-sex couples in California.

Who are the 8 Against 8? Envelope please....

Bloggers Grace Chu and Grace Rosen of Grace the Spot, Pam Spaulding of Pam’s House Blend, Dorothy Snarker of Dorothy Surrenders, Lori Hahn of Hahn At Home, Kelly Leszczynski of The Lesbian Lifestyle, Sinclair of Sugarbutch Chronicles, Riese of This Girl Called Automatic Win, and Renee Gannon of Lesbiatopia.

That's an impressive line-up of folks. Not since "We are the World" has there been that many impressive folks in one paragraph.

The goal is to use the readership of these blogs to help raise funds to defeat Proposition 8. Companies and businesses that donate $100 or more will receive free advertising on sites like Pam’s House Blend and Grace the Spot.

Per the official "8 Against 8" statement, available at Equality California's Web site:

This November, Californians will be asked to vote on Proposition 8, a divisive ballot initiative that would take away the freedom to marry from loving and committed same-sex couples.

We've joined the NO on 8 campaign because we believe every Californian deserves the freedom to marry the one they love. Prop. 8 would create a separate set of rules for same-sex couples, treating them differently under law. Regardless of how you feel about marriage, it is a right that belongs to all of us, without exception.
