Advocates for Same-Sex Marriage Petition Scottish Government
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Network (LGBT Network) of Scotland is petitioning the Scottish Government to do away with the govt's ban on same-sex marriage, and recognize full marriage equality for all Scottish citizens.
"Marriage is the strongest word we have for a declaration of total love and commitment to one another; and to deny any person that opportunity is to deny the full measure of dignity and humanity that we are all endowed with," said Nick Henderson, E.D. of the LGBT Network.
The petition, available here, urges the Scottish Government to amend the Marriage (Scotland) Act 1977, to allow two persons of the same sex to register a civil marriage.
"Equality means all citizens should be treated the same, and that everyone must have the same rights under law," said Henderson.
