Africa: A Trip to the Sunny Side of the Street

Given that this space is filled to the brim with news of a dark and foreboding nature, I think I'll take a cue from Aaron at Africa Matters and point out that not all news from Africa is bad news. Seventy-five percent of media coverage of Africa is negative--and the problems are, no doubt, very real and very serious--but the continent is also making significant strides towards peace, development, and security.

This is a blog about genocide. (Clearly.) Unfortunately, the current and most recent genocides occurred in Africa, and it's often difficult to find the rose in the thorn bush when surveying the issue. (But I'll try harder.)

To counter the prevalence of images of rebels with guns and people suffering on this site, I think I might, from time to time, post pictures of "Africa the Beautiful." (You may have noticed that I did this with my first Congo post. I was having a moment of existential angst.)

First up, one of my favorite sights in the world: Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa.
