Aid Worker Killed in Somalia

An aid worker with the Somali Red Crescent Society was killed in Mogadishu on Tuesday.  According to the Red Cross:

"Farah Aden Mo'allim was travelling in a public transport vehicle when he was caught in crossfire and hit by a stray bullet. He died instantly, before he could be taken to the nearest hospital."

So far this year, five aid workers have been killed in Somalia.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Farah Mo'allim's family and colleagues.

And, over in Darfur, unidentified gunmen raided the Medair compound in Geneina on Sunday, shooting and wounding one aid worker.  According to Medair:

"The compound provides a base for staff who provide essential health and water services to over 200,000 conflict-affected people in this remote part of Sudan...During the raid on the compound, an international staff member was hit by metal fragments when shots were fired, apparently in an attempt to force entry to a building."

The aid worker is expected to make a full recovery.
