Algae and Fuel Cells and Nukes, Oh My

Alternative energy oughta be in pictures...and so it is, in this SciAm.com slideshow of last week's M.I.T. Energy Conference. Reporting from the scene, SciAm's David Biello found that "M.I.T. engineering creativity was on full display" at the one-day gathering -- including the all-electric Porche 914, a sleekly near-carbon-neutral ride that proves just how sexy sustainability can be.
"According to physicist Ernest Moniz, co-director of M.I.T.'s Laboratory for Energy and the Environment," he wrote, "the world must practically stop emitting CO2 in the next 25 years to avoid unpleasant climate change. 'This is an issue of accelerating change [in the energy system] compared to the historical record,' he said. "We need technology, policy and business model innovation."
