All Grandin, All the Time

At the end of January, I posted a roundup of animal rights bloggers' responses to a New York Times review of Temple Grandin's latest book. And since then, there have been a number of additional posts on Grandin out there, many of them on the topic of her new business deal with Niman Ranch to stamp a Grandin seal of approval on their flesh products.
In "Grandin's 'Humane' Seal Even More Ironic, Worthless," Tracy of Digging Through the Dirt follows up on her post "Grandin, Niman Ranch Develop 'Humane' Certification" to report, "It turns out that Grandin's 'humane' certification only certifies that companies are abiding by their own rules!" Tracy quotes Grandin:
There has been considerable confusion generated by the original Niman Ranch press release dated Feb. 11, 2009. The program is an existing Niman Ranch program and I am working with them to make their standards clearer and easier to audit. My seal of approval is verification that they adhere to Niman Ranch standards and have a rigorous auditing program.
Tracy goes on to deconstruct this a bit more, and you should check out her thoughts.
