An Idea That Will Knock Your Socks Off...

[Buy a pair, give a pair free!]

Call me crazy, but during the holidays my favorite gifts to give and receive are both practical and utilitarian... like socks!

So I was delighted to learn about the online Sock-athon that launched earlier this month. For every pair of organic Sierra Club socks purchased online before the holidays, a pair will be donated to the National Coalition for the Homeless.

According to the Sock it 2 Sierra, the official Sock-athon blog, the goal is to donate one million pairs of socks to benefit homeless people by the end of the year. A wise move, since socks are needed most during the cold winter months. According to the blog:

The San Francisco Chronicle, in an article about the homeless three years ago, noted that underwear and socks are two items that are rarely thought of when thinking of donating things for the homeless. The article indicates that social workers say that underwear and socks are imperative for staying clean and healthy while living in the streets.

Smart and savvy online holiday shoppers will be happy to know that each pair comes with an insert that describes the significance of the socks.

Happy shopping!
