And .... We're Back

So, that was fun. We had a great dance party after, then a wonderful honeymoon in New York City where there was much loafing, museum-going and purposeless, epic wandering. Some friends got us two City Pass books that covered tickets to the major museums, the Empire State Building observation deck and a 2 hour water cruise around Manhattan. We came home with some hefty ('nice paper' of the kind used in artist monographs weighs a freakin' ton) additions to our book collection and I got Chris to buy a couple new pairs of shoes for himself, which doubles his shoe wardrobe and will hopefully extend their cumulative lifespan by a good bit.

There was also the eating. The nice thing about going to NYC is that they have just about every kind of food there, and several restaurants that focus on sustainability that we got to try. Food-wise, it was a globetrotting expedition. New Zealand to South Africa, Brazil to the Ukraine, Austria to the US Midwest, and I was even pointed to a store that sold scarlet runner beans and whole grain teff. Woohoo!

And when I say that I was pointed to a store where I could find my favorite bean, I mean that my very good friends at Eating Liberally, who also kindly made the trip upstate to attend our wedding and turned me on to pressure cooking, recommended going to Kalustyan's on Lexington Ave. We can't wait to try their thoughtful wedding gift, a specialized box for making kimchi, sauerkraut and other fermented vegetable concoctions. (I had some they made at home on their own last year, and omfg, so delicious.)

It'll probably take a bit to get back into the swing of things, but thankfully, I didn't have to worry too much about the blog while I was gone. Much appreciation to Melissa Byrne, Steph Larsen, Greg Plotkin, Jill Richardson and Ali Savino for contributing their outstanding writing in my absence! You guys rock :)
