Announcing Two New Guest Bloggers
Good news! Starting tomorrow, we will be featuring Diane Nilan here every Friday. Diane is the Founder and CEO of HEARUS, a non-profit that gives "voice and visibility to homeless children and youth." Diane works nationwide with homeless and impoverished families, publicizing their stories in their own words through video, publications and advocacy networks such as Change.org. Diane travels by RV around the U.S. for her work, and her weekly blog updates here will aim to enrich us with information on the realities of rural poverty and homelessness hidden in the "backroads" of America. I'm thrilled she's joining us.
Next Thursday we welcome Greg Plotkin, who is also a guest writer at our Sustainable Food blog. Greg's post earlier this week on labor exploitation in farming, as well as a piece on food deserts, bring together issues of poverty, inequality, food and the economy. I'm excited for him to bring this knowledge over here as well. Greg lives in DC, was an AmeriCorps member, and a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and Charlie's Place, a soup kitchen in DC.
I believe Greg's and Diane's insights are a much needed addition to my rants about social policy, housing and community development, and culture and inequality. I also think that they bring stronger connections between Poverty in America and our other domestic issues blogs, including food, Homelessness and Immigration. Enjoy and please help me make them feel at home here!
Now for those poverty and criminal justice guest bloggers...
