Anti-Marriage Beauty Queen Gets Married

This is the last time I ever want to say her name.

Anti-gay opportunist and former Miss California Carrie Prejean reportedly married her short-term boyfriend Kyle Boller this weekend in San Diego. That’s so weird, I don’t remember voting on whether or not she was able to get married.

If you have the luxury of not knowing who I am talking about, here is the brief background: Prejean was asked about marriage equality by Perez Hilton in the 2009 Miss USA pageant and she gave an ineloquent marriage = man + woman answer. Although she lost that night, she was adopted by the anti-gay industry as their new spokeswoman and it suddenly became all she was about. Then several solo sex videos were leaked that featured Prejean, so most of the anti-gay industry dumped her and then she fell in love with Kyle Boller. You are now caught up.

Boller, an NFL quarterback, just signed with the Oakland Raiders, which makes it pretty easy for me to vilify him. Even though I don’t like the Raiders, their Bay Area location and Boller’s overall connections to LGBT-friendly locations does make his wife-choice perplexing. Boller is from Burbank, California and he played quarterback for UC Berkeley. Neither location is exactly a bastion for anti-gay activity.

Even though Carrie built her public career on her anti-gay advocacy, the couple shouldn’t feel weird about living in one of the gayest areas in the country … because like Carrie says, she has a couple of gay friends.

Speaking of Prejean’s gay friends, the wedding has been described as “lavish,” which begs the question of how many gay people were behind this wedding? Hopefully not one — not only because Prejean has built a career around denying rights to LGBT people, but also because of the wedding’s location.

Yes, to ensure that the wedding had no redeeming qualities, they decided to hold it in the Grand Del Mar Hotel in San Diego. Which is one of two big San Diego hotels owned by Doug Manchester, who donated $125,000 to the “Yes on Proposition 8” campaign which removed the freedom to marry in California from gay and lesbian couples. Manchester’s hotels have been boycotted by LGBT groups and businesses ever since.

Since I vow to never have to think about her again, I really do wish Prejean and Boller all the best in their marriage. I doubt she would offer my husband and me the same warm wishes in our marriage.
