"Back Up Your Birth Control" Day of Action this March

Got this from the ladies over at Back Up Your Birth Control:

Emergency contraception (EC) is a safe and effective way to prevent pregnancy after sex. But do you know where to get EC if you need it? Can all women in your community get affordable EC in time to prevent an unintended pregnancy? Do the women-and men-you know have the information they need if their birth control fails?

2009 is the 8th year of this campaign and we've seen victories along the way, like the FDA making EC available over-the-counter to women and men ages 18 and older. Unfortunately, setbacks like the Deficit Reduction Act eliminated discounts on birth control for college health centers and safety-net family planning clinics. The result has been an increased burden for millions of college students, teens, and low-income women who may need to back up their birth control now more than ever. And with EC prices averaging $40-$60 nationwide, accessing EC is not always as easy as it sounds.

Back Up Your Birth Control, a project of the National Institute for Reproductive Health, is a national campaign committed to raising awareness of and expanding access to EC. And from now through the Back Up Your Birth Control Day of Action on March 25, you can get involved!

Spread the word about EC with FREE Rosie materials

Our popular EC educational materials featuring Rosie the Riveter are available for FREE! Just visit www.backupyourbirthcontrol.org to place your order, and we'll send you materials to distribute at health centers, to teens, at street fairs, etc.

Enter the Campus Challenge

If you're a college student, get your group to raise awareness about EC on campus. The most original and informative idea will win a $500 prize! Check out our website for details.

You can also visit the website for more information on getting all the facts about EC and getting involved with the campaign. With your help, we can make sure that women and men across New York-and across the country-know how to back up their birth control with EC!

Best,

The Back Up Your Birth Control Team
