**Update: USHMM confirmed the death of one of the security guards, Stephen Tyrone Johns.

To everyone who thinks that Holocaust denial is no big deal, here's a good (or rather, horrifically awful) example of why you're wrong:

A known white supremacist is the suspect in a shooting at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC this afternoon. James von Brunn walked into the museum around 1 pm, and opened fire.

According to CNN (which I'm watching right now, at DFW airport), at least one security guard returned fire, reportedly wounding von Brunn. At least two security guards were wounded according to reports on the web --- CNN is reporting that one has died.

Von Brunn is well-known for his violently racist world view, which includes prolific writings denying the Holocaust.

Violence and hatred begins with words. My thoughts are with everyone at USHMM, with the families of the guards who confronted von Brunn, and with the memory he sought to desecrate.
