Bruce Springsteen on Why He Supports Gay Marriage

Bruce SpringsteenWith a vote on same-sex marriage likely scheduled for this week in the New Jersey State Senate, Bruce Springsteen, one of the most public faces from the Garden State, has weighed in on the issue. And "The Boss" would like to let the world know that when it comes to the issue of gay marriage, he's fully behind it.

Springstreen dropped a note on his Web site last night, calling on the New Jersey legislature to pass same-sex marriage before outgoing Gov. Jon Corzine makes way for (anti-gay marriage) Gov.-Elect Chris Christie. Hmm...could one say that if the New Jersey legislature moves forward with marriage equality, we'll experience what might be known as "Glory Days?"

*rimshot* I'll be here all week, folks.  But Bruce puts it much more eloquently.

"I've long believed in and have always spoken out for the rights of same sex couples and fully agree with Governor Corzine when he writes that, "The marriage-equality issue should be recognized for what it truly is -- a civil rights issue that must be approved to assure that every citizen is treated equally under the law," Springsteen writes on his Web site. "I couldn't agree more with that statement and urge those who support equal treatment for our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters to let their voices be heard now."

That's right. Not next year, not four years from now, not in 2022 when two-thirds of the U.S. recognizes same-sex marriage. Now. Bruce Springsteen gets it. Will the New Jersey state legislature?
