Buffy vs. Edward Cullen

Ever since the Twilight series came out, the whole concept of young girls being attracted to blood sucking vampires definitely irked me. It worried me that it would make women believe that being a victim to love, or that being stalked by men was the only way to romance.
And then Jonathan McIntosh created this awesome video that pretty much flips the scenario, titled: Buffy vs. Edward, an informative feminist mash up video.
I love Jonathan's decision to do the video, described in his own words on WIMN's Voices:
Five months in the making, Buffy vs Edward is essentially an answer to the question “What Would Buffy Do?” My re-imagined story was specifically constructed as a response to Edward, and what his behavior represents in our larger social context for both men and women. More than just a showdown between The Slayer and the Sparkly Vampire, it’s also a humorous visualization of the metaphorical battle between two opposing visions of gender roles in the 21ist century. The response online has been swift, enthusiastic and overwhelming. Apparently I touched a nerve. Seems a lot of people thought it was about time the Slayer did something about Edward Cullen from the Twilight series (who, in case you are not familiar, is a vampire that glitters like diamonds in the sunlight to attract prey — sorta like a stalky My Little Pony with fangs).
I couldn't agree more with his description of Edward Cullen, from the Twilight series. And the fact that a "stalky My Little Pony with fangs" has already attracted thousands of young girls as his fan club prey, I am thankful that this video is pointing out just how dangerous his role playing is in terms of twisting the malleable minds of young girls into thinking there is anything right about the character's behavior. So thank you, Jonathan, for creating a video that pretty much sums up the way I feel about Twilight and that we need to be teaching girls to kick ass - not become victims of a man's prey.
