BusinessWeek Covers the Pop!Tech Social Innovation Fellows
BusinessWeek just published an article about the Pop!Tech Social Innovation Fellows program. We've written about Pop!Tech fellows Abby Falik (Global Citizen Year), Ken Banks (FrontlineSMS) and Erik Hersman and Ory Okolloh (Ushahidi). The program is designed to help accelerate change by putting a cohort of social innovators through a sort of educational boot-camp. Coming from an educator's perspective, I'm a huge fan of gathering's like Pop!Tech that recognize and harness their potential to teach people.
The week started with a session called "Good Brand Camp":
While their missions varied wildly, most shared a couple of traits: They had passion, which had taken them this far. But, like Edwards, they lacked entreprenuerial training. This became immediately apparent in the first session, Good Brand Camp... To kick it off, each fellow stood to give the elevator pitch for his or her organization, although most would have needed a ride to the top of the Sears Tower to get the idea across.
This type of training is incredibly valuable, and more Pop!Techs, MaRS Discovery Districts, and Hub-type endeavors should be doing this. Check out the full article here.
