Recent bandit attacks against humanitarian staff in eastern Chad have forced aid agencies to suspend operations around Dogore and Ade, affecting over 35,000 people.  Overall, so far this year four aid workers have been killed in Chad.

Chad is often like the forgotten foster-child of the Darfur conflict.  The border between the two countries has long since ceased to have any meaning, as Darfuri refugees flow into Chad and Chadian refugees flow into DarfurChad supports Sudanese rebel groups, while Sudan supports Chadian rebel groups in a vicious proxy war which overlays the conflict in Darfur.

There are currently 250,000 Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad, as well as 180,000 Chadians who have had to flee their homes due to the fighting.
