Chase Community Giving Announces 100 $25,000 Winners
Chase bank upped the ante - literally - on giving contests this month with their Chase Community Giving competition on Facebook. All told, in the next couple months, they're giving away $5 million. The first part of that is 100 $25,000 winners. They've just announced the winners today.
The list of 100 winners was determined by user voting. Each of the top 100 vote getting groups will get a grant and the chance to pitch why they should get the bigger prize - $1 million for the ultimate winner and $100,000 for five runners up.
These contests are an increasingly popular way for big brands to engage with their customers who care about doing good. I think as that happens, contests are going to have to put up bigger bounties to capture attention, and they're going to have to get more creative.
FORGE founder Kjerstin Erickson wrote a great post about the downside of these competitions which is the relatively high cost of participation in terms of the time it takes staff to engage their communities, and the social cost of asking for one more thing. It's a must read for anyone interested in this space.
Stay tuned for more info about Chase and congrats to all the first round winners.
