Chuck Schumer and Same-Sex Marriage

Chuck Schumer

Chuck Schumer has just become the highest-ranking U.S. Senator to support marriage equality.  Per comments he gave last night at a meeting with the Empire State Pride Agenda, as well as an official statement from his office today posted on Elizabeth Benjamin's blog at the Daily News:

It’s time. Equality is something that has always been a hallmark of America and no group should be deprived of it. New York, which has always been at the forefront on issues of equality, is appropriately poised to take a lead on this issue.

This theoretically means that both U.S. Senators in New York (Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand) support marriage equality.  Might that give State Sen. Malcolm Smith the wiggle room to move marriage equality legislation forward in the Empire State this year?

One other question: does anyone know Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's official position on same-sex marriage?  Since he's likely to be NY's next governor (provided he jumps into the race) his position seems like it might be the most pertinent right about now.
