Comment of the Week, May 28 - June 5

Welcome to our very first comment of the week. This is a new feature. Every Friday, we'll choose and highlight our favorite comment for the previous week. It might the smartest, the funniest, or the most useful. Whatever catches our eyes, really. The author of the comment will get a gift of Change.org coins to the charity of their choice, and the widespread fame that comes from being known as commenter of the week. It was a tough contest this week. The circumcision posts generated a lot of light and heat on the comment front.
Our winner, though, is from Patrick Mayne, on the acronyms post. I liked it because it nicely echoed the cranky tone of the original post. Mariam, who suggested it as the winning comment, said
Patrick Mayne's comment on the Acronyms post made me laugh because it was a mini-rant about how people working for organizations don't always know the things that outsiders wonder about first. People are always wondering what different acronyms mean because we like to think that acronyms make life faster and easier for us...when really they're just another thing to learn and remember.
And I was really curious... is "CARE packages" really trademarked?
Well, Wikipedia and someone who writes about cookies say so, so it must be true.
Patrick, please contact Mariam and choose your charity gift.

Edited to add. DUH - here is the text of the comment:
This is an amazing post. As for me, I might be dense, but I've never figured out what the "A" in UNFPA actually stood for. That and UNICEF. And UNIFEM. Basically any acronym that's not actually using the letters in the full name. And CARE because it's always capitalized, but at least the people I worked for in the regional office had no idea what it was supposed to stand for, and then you find out that they apparently have trademarked "CARE Packages", and all that. And other things annoy me too, but I've already gone on too long.
