Congress Agrees to Fund All $50m of Social Innovation Fund

In a move sure to excite social entrepreneurs around the country, a House-Senate conference committee has agreed to fund the entire requested $50 million dollars for the first ever US Social Innovation Fund.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy reported about the full proceedings yesterday on their Government and Politics Watch. Also set to receive additional resources is the AmeriCorps program, which hopes to fund 10,000 additional placements for the national volunteer program.

While the committee approved the full request for the Social Innovation Fund, other programs were set to receive less than the Administration requested. These include a fund to help nonprofits recruit and manage volunteers, as well a capacity-building fund to help nonprofit groups access management training.

I continue to be cautiously optimistic about this whole government-social innovation experiment, and I'm glad that this new institution has the full amount of resources to give it it's best shot with.
