The American consulate in Jerusalem is reporting that two members of Congress are visiting Gaza right now. This is the first such visit in at least four years.

The two are Democrats Brian Baird of Washington and Keith Ellison of Minnesota. In the current political context, this can only be seen as a courageous act of solidarity with the people of Gaza, slowly recovering from the recent war. .

Keith Ellison is the first and so far only Muslim Congressman.

Two hours after the two left Gaza, Israel bombed Rafah in an air strike. One report states that Senator John Kerry was in Gaza at the time. I'm actually encouraged - the more international visitors to Gaza the better.
