Court May Toss Out Banana Pesticide Case
A court in LA is trying a case about whether Dole is responsible for banana workers becoming sterile after exposure to pesticides. However, they might throw the case out. The plaintiffs - according to Dole - might be frauds who never worked on Dole's banana plantations at all or who even have children. My own take on this is that I am not going to believe a word Dole says until I see more evidence. I find it much easier to believe that banana pesticides made workers sterile and Dole is going to great lengths to make the accusations of fraud than the alternative. The alternative would be that Nicaraguans looking to make a buck are posing as sterile banana workers and that the lawyers are "in" on the lie, educating the Nicaraguans to help them lie. That seems quite far-fetched to me, although not impossible. In the meantime, I'm glad I just ate some organic bananas but I'm very sorry that they were from Dole.
