Daily Darfur: The ICC and Beyond

The Darfur news feed is a bit quiet so far today...but in this case, it's hard to know if "no news is good news" really applies.

Martha at the Save Darfur blog provides a good round-up of responses to yesterday's action at the ICC. Save Darfur President Jerry Fowler ties his expression of support for the move to indict Darfur rebel leaders for attacks on UN peacekeepers back into the need for urgent action on Darfur:

"As we have previously noted, the focus of attention must now shift back to the U.N. Security Council, which has the responsibility to end the crisis and bring peace. So far, the council has abdicated that responsibility. It has refused to act on standing ICC arrest warrants, failed to provide the necessary equipment to UNAMID, and has allowed the Sudanese to both obstruct peacekeeper deployment and continue to use violence and destruction against its own population. That must end. Moreno-Ocampo has acted. We call again on the council to follow suit."

And Joe Rogers in Denver asks as to put ourselves in the (very unfortunate) shoes of someone in Darfur:

"What if this happened here in the United States? What if this happened to your family? Wouldn't you want somebody to help you? I would think so."
