Dawning excitement

I arrived in DC last night.  The Providence airport was dead on Saturday night, but somehow my Southwest flight to Baltimore-Washington Airport was packed, as was BWI.  When we landed, our flight attendant announced, "Have fun at the inauguration!"  Oh, we will!

I'm staying with friends in the Maryland suburbs right now, moving to another friend's couch in the District tomorrow.  The weather here is grey and chilly, but the temperature is in the 30s - practically tropical after the last few days.

We're weighing our options on stuff to do today.  There seems to be consensus about trying to get near the Mall, where there's a free concert (Bono!  Beyonce!  Bruce!), not to hear the music but to soak up the human energy and excitement that's been palpable even through the emails and tentative plans I've been making with everyone I hardly know these last couple days.  We are an extremely blessed lot, the million plus of us who have traveled down here to be part of this historic occasion.

Posts tomorrow are my last round of full-blown ranting about Bush, I promise.  Come Tuesday, it's nothing but hope and cheer and optimism for the possibilities before us!

Until Wednesday, anyway, when it's back to the grind!
