Denial is a River in Sudan

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, whose most recent claim to fame includes admission into the elite club of indicted war criminals, gave an interview with the BBC. In a repeat of the same tired script heard over and over again, Bashir places himself in the role of the victim, accusing the big bad West of hatching an insidious plot intent on his demise. He also both accepts and denies responsibility for violent acts committed against civilians, saying, "I assume full responsibility for what has happened to my citizens. However, what has been reported to have happened in Darfur did not actually take place."

Very unconvincing, Mr. Bashir, and you really should be more creative: That's not the first, and likely will not be the last, time that old lines has been used by a perpetrator of genocide and mass atrocity.
