Deporting Muslims: The Christian Thing to Do
When the American Family Association's Brian Fischer isn't busy ranting against the "homosexual agenda" endangering the Constitution and suggesting that "active homosexuals" be forced into "reparative therapy," he finds time to argue that deporting all Muslim immigrants is the Christian thing to do.
In his extremely disturbing regular column (that I don't suggest anyone subjects themselves to reading) on the AFA's "pro-family" website, Fischer argues for an immediate halt to all immigration of Muslims into the United States because they refuse to integrate into "American" culture, and "remain dedicated to subjecting all of America to sharia law" — which interferes with his attempts to subject all of America to conservative Christian law. By "American" culture, incidentally, I'm pretty sure he also means "Christian."
But, really, this is for their own good. Fischer writes, "The most compassionate thing we can do for Muslims who have already immigrated here is to help repatriate them back to Muslim countries ... Why force them to chafe against the freedom, liberty and civil rights we cherish in the West?" Yes, why give them the freedom to make a life in the United States when you can force them to go back to a country with people like them? Wait, did I mix up my verbs there?
"In other words, simple Judeo-Christian compassion dictates a restriction and repatriation policy with regard to Muslim immigration into the U.S.," he continues. Now, what I'm always curious about with arguments like these is whether Fischer actually manages to believe his own words and claim of "compassion," or if he recognizes the Islamophobia that fuels his rhetoric for the intolerance that it is.
