Depression Is a Cause and an Effect

by Mark Horvath · 2010-07-09 15:26:00 UTC

I met Fiana while visiting Chicago. She lost her parents, then her grandmother and then she made what might be the most difficult choice of all: she gave her baby up for adoption.

Living on the streets off and on over the last three years, life has been hard for Fiana. It doesn't help matters that she suffers from depression, which prevents her from any semblance of a normal life. Depression is a reality for many people. And homelessness is never the answer for mental illness.

If you've felt the pain of depression, either in your own life or that of a family member, you know Fiana's pain. Mental illness is serious and a huge cause of homelessness. I think it's so very sad that the only solution we have for hurting people is more hurt. Don't you?
