Do the Wealthy Have An Obligation to Help the Poor?
We may soon know the answer. Or, at least, have a passable guess. "Do the wealthy have an obligation to help the poor?" is the prompt for this year's Great American Think-Off, the amateur philosophy contest that isn't afraid to ask difficult moral questions.
To enter, submit an essay of up to 750 words by April 1. Four finalists will be brought to Minnesota to compete in a live debate for the title of "America's Greatest Thinker." That's hokey, but the chance for average people to flex their philosophical muscle is pretty cool. For more information, see the Great American Think-Off's website.
If you're interested in entering, here's a bit of advice: the answer, if you ever want to be invited to another cookout, is "yes."
