Election Reflection #3: The Right To Privacy Prevails
The Feminist Majority reports that the three anti-choice measures put on the ballot in Colorado, California and South Dakota failed on November 4th. Local initiatives are often a good way to identify the pulse of the electorate on difficult issues such as reproductive health and it seems that the tide of the women's movement went in the right direction this year and voters did not allow these measures to chip away at their reproductive health.
- In Colorado, the "fetal personhood amendment" was defeated 73-27, in addition to a state constitutional amendment that would have ended state Affirmative Action programs.
- In South Dakota, a measure to criminalize abortion was defeated for the second time, .
- In California, a proposition to limit a woman's access to abortion through "parental consent" laws, was defeated for the third time.
