U.S. House LGBT Equality CaucusThe U.S. House's LGBT Equality Caucus got itself a new vice chair today, with the announcement that U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) would join Reps. Barney Frank and Tammy Baldwin as leaders of the group.  The LGBT Equality Caucus was created in June 2008 to bring together members of Congress committed toward the extension of equal rights, the repeal of discriminatory laws, and the elimination of hate-motivated violence.

Rep. Weiner had this to say about his new role: "I am proud to help lead a group who understands the need for basic human dignity and basic rights. There's a certain dignity this country aspires to and I will work hard with my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to turn that aspiration into a reality."

One former member of the LGBT Equality Caucus, California Rep. Hilda Solis, is pending confirmation to be President Barack Obama's Labor Secretary.  Other members of the LGBT Equality Caucus have included: Niki Tsongas (D-MA), José Serrano (D-NY), Xavier Becerra (D-CA), Jerry Nadler (D-NY), Barbara Lee (D-CA), Lois Capps (D-CA), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Linda Sánchez (D-CA), Mike Honda (D-CA), and James McGovern (D-MA).  As of June 2008, a total of 52 members of Congress were considered members of the LGBT Equality Caucus.
