Excited About SoCap? Check Out Their Interactive Press Conference

The Social Capital Markets conference is just around the corner, and the communities of participants and planners are already beginning to converge. In San Francisco, the Hub at SOMA (run by the same folks who run SoCap) is buzzing with the pre-event energy, and with an interactive press call tomorrow (Thursday), that energy is moving online.

For those who haven't read about it in the past, the Social Capital Markets conference (or SoCap) is one of the largest gatherings of social entrepreneurs, philanthropists, investors, service providers, and other actors interested in ushering in a more just economy. Now in its third year, the participant group has grown from 700 to over 1000 to more like 1300-1400 anticipated this year.

As I've written about previously, there are a number of format experiments this year meant to make it easier for people to find their place within the conference, the most prominent being the organization of content into distinct subject tracks. The goal is to help people connect with their specific subcommunities in addition to just throwing them into the wilds of the larger space.

Tomorrow morning, Thursday 9/16, the team at SoCap are hosting an interactive 'Meet and Greet' with the help of Justgood.tv as a way to begin the conversation with the speakers and hosts of SoCap. Participants on the webinar will include SoCap convener Kevin Jones and speakers/supporters including Patrick Donohue (The Hoop), Scott Leonard (Indigenous Designs), Matthieu Senard (Alter Eco), and Dave Rochlin (Climate Path). Viewers can ask questions via Twitter or the video chat box.

What's clear is that this year sees SoCap as more of a "platform" than ever before. Between the content tracks and little interactive features like this discussion, it's moving to an ecosystem model in which it provides the skeleton of a community and lets other people fill in the rest.
