FDA No Longer Calling BPA Safe

by Cameron Scott · 2010-01-15 13:50:00 UTC

The FDA announced concern over the plastics ingredient Bisphenol A today, backing away from previous statements that the stuff was safe.

It's a small step forward: They called for more research, when there's been no shortage of studies showing BPA, as it's commonly called, threatens the health of fetuses, babies and children; new research this week linked BPA exposure with heart disease in adults.

Nevertheless, progress is progress. The FDA is supporting immediate "removal of BPA from baby bottles and cups and support those companies that have already removed BPA from their formula packaging," according to NRDC.
