Fight Impotence With Vegetarianism
PETA's new campaign features British celebrity, Chantelle Houghton, wearing a look of disgust while holding a limp hot dog. The poster reads: “Eating Meat Got You Down? Fight Impotence. Go Vegetarian!”
According to a recent study published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association, erectile dysfunction is a strong predictor of heart ailments. Men who suffer from erectile dysfunction are twice as likely to die from cardiovascular disease as those who do not have erectile dysfunction.
Many studies have found that vegetarians are at significantly lower risk for heart disease, so a vegetarian diet may also help fight impotence.
Another study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine reported that a diet high in vegetables, fruits, nuts and whole grains improved blood flow in men with high cholesterol. Healthy blood flow is required to sustain an erection.
Vegetarians are more likely to be female, possibly due in part to women being more health conscious. Men should be equally attentive to how diet affects their health, as more men than women have heart attacks, and prostate cancer has been linked to a diet high in animal fat.
There have been some recent attempts to popularize vegetarianism in men: from the invention of the word "Hegan" for male vegans to the ridiculous suggestion from Bolivian President Evo Morales that eating chicken causes homosexuality and baldness in men.
While I'm adamantly against using vegetarianism to promote homophobia, I'm all for attempting to improve your sex life through vegetarianism. Vegetarianism can certainly improve your health, and your compassionate choice is likely to be attractive to your partner (be that partner male or female).
