Night number three of Chanukah. For the third installment of Eight Fair Trade Nights, I spotted this uber uber cool Fair Trade menorah. It's a menorah made out of an old bicycle chain. !!! So. Very. Cool.

Made by Indian artisans from the Fair Trade organization, Noah's Ark International. Working their way around the skyrocketing costs of metal, these artisans look for alternative metals and materials to construct their products. Based out of Moradabad, India, Noah's Ark International is comprised mainly of women who benefit from the medical treatment and education that they and their families receive. The organization was founded in 1986 by Samuel Masih in his one room family house. He was tired of seeing artisans being exploited for their work and worked to dedicate himseld to promote these artisans and their crafts. Since 1986, Masih's vision has grown and has helped 20 artisan workshops become independent and self-sufficient.

Independent. Self-sufficient and clearly innovative artisans. Definitely a hipped out Chanukah with this bicycle chain menorah.
