GES2009: Engage Chicago
Each year, GES brings students from around the world to the event, many of whom have never been to the United States before. In order to ensure that their experience isn't just within the halls of an academic institution, their first few days are spent in a service-learning immersion in Chicago.
Our students, which inlcude delegates from Belarus, Tanzania, Ukraine, Argentina, Australia, Costa Rica, Poland, Egypt, South Africa, China, Macedonia, Italy, and more, visited organizations like the Resurrection Project in the largely Latin American neighborhood of Pilsen.
The goal was, on the one hand, to help them understand how poverty and inequality in urban America, and on the other, to help them share their stories and the approaches they've taken to solving problems in their own countries.
