Prop 8

What are you doing tomorrow around 9:00am PST, 12:00noon EST?  Well, if you're not in California and can't make it to a viewing rally to watch the hearings on Proposition 8 (see if there's one near you at Eve of Justice's Web site), you can see a live webcast of the event over at calchannel.com.  Tomorrow at 9:00am PST, they will start broadcasting the hearings live.

If you can't watch then, don't worry.  They'll be posting an archive of the footage later in the day.  How will tomorrow morning's hearings shape up?  Here's the skinny:

Opponents (YAY!): Lawyers for two groups of same-sex couples challenging Prop. 8 will have 30 minutes each to present their case. The city of San Francisco, representing local governments opposing Prop. 8, will also have 30 minutes.

Proponents (Boo...): Kenneth Starr, representing Protect Marriage, sponsor of Prop. 8, will have one hour.

Attorney general's office: Attorney General Jerry Brown's office will have 15 minutes for arguments that Prop. 8 is unconstitutional because it denies fundamental rights to a minority group. His office also will have 15 minutes, however, to counter Prop. 8 opponents' arguments that the measure is an invalid revision of the state Constitution and a violation of separation of powers.

The LA Times has an article today that suggests that the Court may hint at its decision tomorrow, after the hearings conclude.  The official verdict from the court is due within 90 days of tomorrow's hearing.
