Girl2Woman: Providing Reproductive Health Care, One Video Share at a Time

Lately, I think we've all been getting more than our fill of stories about government trying to limit women's reproductive choices, whether it is Utah criminalizing miscarriage or Florida trying to turn abortion-providers into felons or Nicaragua refusing to allow a woman to have a life-saving abortion. I don't know about you, but this stuff makes me angry and a little bit sick. That's why I find it refreshing to hear about efforts like Girl2Woman, an initiative of Pathfinder International to jump start the conversation about global reproductive health care and to raise funds to ensure access to that health care is available to women worldwide.

Launched last January, Girl2Woman's mission is simple: Get 1 million people to share a video through their website. Each time someone shares Girl2Woman's video -- which is pretty inspiring, by the way -- $1 will be donated to Pathfinder International to continue their efforts to bring comprehensive reproductive health care to women. Never has making a difference been easier.

So, here's what you need to do: First, visit Girl2Woman's website and watch the video. It lasts a whopping 1 minute, 25 seconds. Then, when the video is over, use the form provided to share it with your family and friends (and do make sure you use that form when sharing the video, that's how they tally the shares in order to get the donation). That's it. In less than five minutes, you can make a real impact.

And lest you think that "reproductive health care" is just code for "abortions," think again. Yes, the right to a safe abortion is part of it, but so are contraceptives, education, family planning, HIV/AIDS awareness, and so much more. A healthier, more empowered woman leads to a stronger families. So, really, there is no excuse not to take a couple of minutes out of your day to watch a cool video and help women take control of their own reproductive lives. In a time where it feels like our choices are constantly under attack, we should seize every little opportunity to take a stand.
