Happy Fair Trade Halloween

Halloween is finally here. It's been a busy month on my end promoting Fair Trade Month as well as promoting a Fair Trade Halloween, encouraging people to pass out Fair Trade chocolate. The demand has been overwhelming this year, so that's a positive indicator that people are becoming more aware of Fair Trade and are willing to shop responsibly. Since it's Halloween, that also means that kids all over are learning about the concept. Fostering ideas of social justice at a young age can make a powerful impact on ones lives.

One of the big pushes every year to get the Fair Trade word out to kids has been the Reverse-Trick-or-Treating campaign. It educates people about the atrocities on cocoa farms and advocates for a just way of sourcing chocolate in a fun, easy wide spread way.  Everyone can still get involved, by downloading flyers and passing them out later tonight to all the ghouls and goblins.

Six-year-old Ramsay Hobson in Canada is already pumped and ready to get involved in the action. When asking Ramsay's mother, Dale Ladouceur the importance of the campaign she responded:

"I know some people don't know about the atrocities on these cocoa farms," Ladouceur said. "No one has advocated for them really. When people start making different choices, that's what will perpetuate real change."

Ramsay, her mother and thousands of other trick-or-treaters out there are taking action tonight. Justice never tasted so sweet.

So, have a safe and Fair Trade Halloween everyone. Yes, that is me as Fair Trade Certified banana. Made by a small-scale Zarah, organically, with my own two hands.
