How Will Millennials Change the Future of Feminism?
The Third Wave of the feminist movement encompasses the early 1990s to the present. However, it seems that as millennials begin to take charge, a formalized Fourth Wave movement will evolve. There are already shouts and murmurs of it's existence and what it means. Some are saying the Fourth Wave is going to be a spiritual movement whereas others are seeing it as a reaction to the 2008 Presidential race.
I have been waiting for a time when my generation - Generation Why as I've previously called it - might find a cohesive identity. And despite previous thoughts that the millennials might ride the coattails of Gen X apathy, it seems that with the 2008 election, my generation's questionable identity has found it's answer as a catalyst to a better future.
As someone who observes generational impacts and contemplates social change, I thoroughly enjoyed the message provided by the Gen We campaign seen in the video below. Take a few minutes to watch it and think about how you might see the next generation changing the future of the women's rights movement:
As a feminist and a millennial, I try to be the change I wish to see in the world, take action where it is needed and communicate to the masses through my writing.
What about you? How do you identify with your generation and how do you think the millennials will help or hinder the future of the women's rights movement?
