Hunger Action Month & Food Desert Month

Hunger Action Month is drawing attention to the 1 in 8 Americans who struggles with hunger today. They're organizing events around the country and encouraging people to skip a lunch and donate money instead, which can pay for up to 15 meals through their “Give A Little, Feed a Lot” campaign. Feeding America is working with 205 food banks around the country, calling on local communities to make a difference. Read the real stories of people effected by hunger and take action.
September is also Food Desert Month. We at Change.org have spoken in the past about food deserts before — urban locations were fresh, wholesome food is unavailable. Greg Plotkin explained that farmers' markets are "helping families eat healthier and encouraging children to appreciate and enjoy their fruits and vegetables."
These are two really important causes that it shouldn't take a whole month to get people's attention. We'll be continuing coverage of hunger and food deserts all year long.
