In the Blogs: Generic Fish(es), Pounds of Flesh, "Freaks," Babies, and AR2009

We Eat Babies and Frogs Are Cool (And Dissection Sucks) from Liberation BC
Animal Exploitation on Coney Island from Digging Through the Dirt
"Generic" Individuals: The Ultimate in Speciesist Doublespeak from easyVegan.info (on the problem of "fish" and especially "generic fish")
-Much, much more after the jump-

Sunstein, Chambliss, and the Pound of Flesh from Animal Blawg
Interview with Jeff Masson, Author of The Face on Your Plate, from SuperVegan (I finally got a chance to finish reading this book while flying to and from AR; there will be posts on it soon!)
SHAC7 Member Josh Harper Now Home from Digging Through the Dirt
Truth, Love, and Liberty from The Abolitionist Approach (because it's not just local/regional humane societies that raise money for some animals at the expense of others)
Racing "At" (Not "To") the Airport from Animal Blawg (I'm so glad David wrote about this; when I saw the news, I didn't have it in me)
And now here are some mini-roundups within the roundup:
First, Glenn of Liberation BC took part, quite impressively, in a 24-hour blogathon this weekend, during which time he wrote at least 48 posts, one every half hour (I'm assuming he came in at the planned 48, but the final total could have been more, I suppose; I didn't count). He endured this grueling task to benefit his organization and in the process provided us with some great posts. Sadly, right in the middle of this endeavor, one of his rabbit companions suddenly passed away, but Glenn soldiered on with the project. Scroll through the recent posts at the Liberation BC blog to see what else he was up to over the 24 hours in addition to the blogathon posts I included in this roundup.
And second and finally, following are some bloggers' posts written during (and after) AR2009 recapping and giving reactions to last weekend's conference. My own posts have been showing up here and there, and I may soon need to do just a quick bullet-point post giving basic reactions and introducing the subjects of what more detailed posts I want to write, or by the time I have a chance to write them all, while still keeping up with other blogging topics, I may have forgotten what all I wanted to cover!
From Vegan Soapbox:
Elaine managed to get an Internet connection in the meeting rooms and actually live-blogged some notes during her first-conference experiences at several Saturday and Sunday sessions; the posts were many, so I won't link to them individually, but you can find them here.
From Invisible Voices:
Deb posted thoughts on her conference experiences in three parts: 1, 2, and 3. Her posts give some great details and important information from the several sessions she attended. I haven't yet seen anyone recap sessions in as much detail as Deb has here, so check these out for good information.
From Vegan Break:
Michelle took us outside the conference walls, via video, to some of the fantastic vegan restaurants many conference attendees were checking out while in Los Angeles. At Seed, she got a great interview with the owner while giving us a mouth-watering look at the food. And in her video at the much-loved Veggie Grill, she and her friends Jen and Dan showed off even more scrumptious vegan goodies. They're fun videos; definitely check them out.
From The Traveling Vegetarian:
At one point during the conference, Yvonne took a break from her crazy schedule full of conferencing and hanging out with friends to recap what had been happening so far, including a look at some of the great products she was finding in the exhibit hall (I can't believe I forgot to get Dandies while I'm there! I have a fire pit on loan; I need Dandies!). Visit Yvonne's site for additional videos that followed. "There's a place for dessert, just like there's a place for beer." So true, so true.
From Animal Rights at Change.org (i.e., me!):
Here's what little I've been able to give you so far: Compassion and Hope from St. Louis to Los Angeles, A Note for Animal Rights Nonprofits (not really about the conference, but related), Food Not Bombs: Connecting Compassionate Movements for 30 Years, Nurturing Activism at AR2009, and The Great Whole Foods Cheese-and-Apple-Pie Adventure.
