Is PETA More Sexist Than Mainstream Advertisers?
The Women's Rights blogger for Change.org and commenters are discussing the PETA ad rejected by NBC for a Super Bowl spot. Check out the post here. What do you think about the repercussions of these such campaigns for the animal rights movement as a whole, for our reputation? Do they simply cause more harm than good? And whatever you think about such ads, do you agree that PETA's ads are truly any more sexist or sexualized than ads selling products (rather than ideas)--for example, the offensive Hardee's ads? I'm going to refrain from expressing my opinions at the moment and encourage you to share your thoughts and concerns instead.
(And please, allow me to take this opportunity to remind non-AR readers, once again, given that this has come up several times in comment threads, that PETA and the animal rights movement are not one and the same. PETA doesn't represent all AR advocates. HSUS does not represent all AR advocates. Please don't judge a movement by the stances and actions of animal advocacy groups that just happen to be able to get more attention than smaller groups and independent activists.)
