Read more at al-Jazeera, CNN, Haaretz. Many of us will be horrified at this Israeli response; but wasn't it an inevitable response to the constant firing of rockets into southern Israel?

Was this attack part of Hamas strategy to provoke Israel into military action as a way of occupying center stage diplomatically, and sucking oxygen from President Abbas?

"Top IDF brass anticipate difficult days ahead, warning that the operation will extend beyond the next couple of days."

Update: Help the Peacemakers has posted an action. Please consider writing a letter to the editor opposing the assault on Gaza and expressing sympathy with all victims of violence, both Israeli and Palestinian.
