John Mayer: "My Dick Is Sort of Like a White Supremacist"

This won't come as a surprise to anyone who's ever read an interview with the guy, but John Mayer's an asshole. And in his latest TMI-laced sit down with Playboy magazine, he also comes off as a sexist with some racist leanings.

Here's part of the exchange:

PLAYBOY: Do black women throw themselves at you?

MAYER: I don’t think I open myself to it. My dick is sort of like a white supremacist. I’ve got a Benetton heart and a fuckin’ David Duke cock. I’m going to start dating separately from my dick.

Now, let me start off by saying that, in general, I could care less who John Mayer's penis gravitates towards, as long as it stays away from me. But in the context of this interview, where he also drops the N-bomb, talks about having a "hood pass," breaks down what it means to black (i.e. have occasional struggles), and describes Jessica Simpson's love-making as "sexual napalm," I think it's fair to read a bit into what he says, because he's obviously a destructive bigot.

First off, I have to point out that John didn't say yes to the question, so it's not like his penis has any choice. I'm black and so are most of my friends, and when we get together to talk about the CILFs (celebs we'd like to ...) of our dreams, Johnny boy doesn't usually come up. I can't speak for all, but I'm just saying. And the interviewer asking if black women "throw themselves" at him? Ugh. Stereotypes about over-sexed black people are sooo 2009.

Of course John "King Douche" Mayer has a right to be attracted to whomever he likes, but the way he flippantly throws around references to white supremacy, a movement that used rape and violence against black women as a form of control, and nonchalantly compared his penis to infamous racist and anti-Semite David Duke is disturbing. As Danielle Belton of the blog Black Snob noted, "David Duke wants to either string me up a tree or send me back to the fields. I didn't know your dick belonged to the Klan ... The Klan is never funny. They kill people."

I first heard of this interview on Twitter and after the initial backlash, lots of people in my timeline started to *shrug* or lament that the conversation wasn't directed back to other "important" issues like Haiti or women's rights. They failed to realize that famous privileged idiots given the world's stage to spew hateful ideas is important to discuss and combat. People like John, who walk around with the notion that being a liberal Democrat makes them "post-racial," but who's inner sentiments are anything but politically correct, towards people of color and women, are some of the biggest threats to any real change in unfair ideology.

And if his treatment of black women isn't enough to get your goat, I'd urge you to read the rest of the interview. He makes it clear that just because his dick doesn't allow him to fuck other ethnicities, the white women he chooses are the ones who really get, umm, shafted.
