Join the Impact for Marriage Equality
Today, marriage equality supporters came together in 8 countries, 50 U.S. states, and more than 300 cities to say a resounding "NO" to Proposition 8 in California. Details on all of the rallies are coming in fast and furious. We had 5,000 in Boston. I hear reports of 8,000-10,000 in Seattle. More than 12,000 in Los Angeles. Over 1,000 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and nearly 2,000 in Sacramento. Even Fargo, North Dakota came out to say "NO" to Proposition 8. And Wanda Sykes officially came out of the closet today at a rally in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This movement is, to say the least, phenomenal. If today showed anything, it's that there's a wealth of support for marriage equality in this country, and if it's not going to happen this year, it's going to happen soon.
You'll see some videos on the site from the Boston, MA rally. As I said, 5,000 people showed up on a rather gray and wet day. We're proud in Massachusetts to be the first state in the U.S. to legally recognize gay marriage. To stand in solidarity with those in California to say "No on Prop 8" was, for lack of a better word, powerful. We made history today, and we'll keep making it until the only way people will know that gay marriage was ever illegal in this country is by reading old history books.
