KFC's "Double Down" Quadruples on Cruelty
On April Fool's Day, KFC announced their plans for the "Double Down." It's a bacon and two cheese sandwich slathered in "Colonel's sauce" between two pieces of fried chicken for "bread." Good one, Colonel Sanders.
But it's not an April Fool's gag. The Double Down is real, and it is coming to clog your arteries April 12.
It's unapologetically gluttonous, not to mention cruel. The sandwich (if you can call it that) contains pork, dairy, chicken and eggs. How many factory farmed animals can you cram into one meal?
Even the "Colonel's sauce" has animal ingredients in it. This is a supposedly "secret" sauce, but you can find the ingredients on the KFC website. There are 21 ingredients in the sauce, and they include egg yolk, chicken fat, and dehydrated chicken.
But the KFC website assures the concerned consumer that "Yum! Brands, parent company of KFC, is committed to the humane treatment of animals."
Right ... just like KFC believes in "eating sensibly," which they also claim on their website. That is exactly why KFC has created the Double Down, a gooey mound of saturated fat and sodium. Because it's "sensible." Because KFC really cares about your "healthy lifestyle."
KFC boasts that its "farmers utilize the most modern, state of the art facilities, which provide a computer controlled environment, protection from predators, and greatly reduce the possibility of disease." Let's say what we mean here: a factory farm where animals have no access to the outdoors, often die from heatstroke or stress, and are crammed so closely together they can't move. But thank goodness they're safe from coyotes!
KFC's website has a running countdown until the Double Down is available. It's like watching a ticking time bomb towards the end of humanity.
