Links for For-Profit Social Entrepreneurs

A lot of watchful eyes are keeping track of the economy's impact on the venture capital scene. As more and more social entreprenreurs create for-profit organizations that combine social and financial missions, there is an emerging social capital market ecosystem that includes many social venture capital firms. For people from a nonprofit background, these groups can sometimes be a bit of a mystery. A few interesting posts from the last few days on venture capital and for-profit investors:
- Andy Funk: Entrepreneur Turned Socially-Concious Venture Capitalist - a cool post on Triple Pundit about the entrepreneur behind Helping.org (which became Network for Good) and his approach to social venture capital.
- The No-Bull-Shittake Investor Wishlist - re-printed from Guy Kawasaki's "Reality Check" which I'll be reviewing here soon, a great list to help the aspiring entrepreneur think about their interaction with investors. Key advice: be real.
- Could VC be a Casaulty of the Recession? - an absolutely fascinating essay by Y-Combinator founder and general startup guru Paul Graham that basically argues that when web-based entrepreneurs realize they can achieve profitability without investor capital, it could kill the VC industry as we know it. Must read for web folks.
