Maggie Gallagher is a Big Anti-LGBT Rip Off

Maggie Gallagher

Is it right for the head of a non-profit organization to take in more than 42 percent of the organization's donations as a salary?  Seem a little off?

Well, look no further than Maggie Gallagher, the President of the Institute for Marriage and Public Policy (IMAPP), and the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), whose fifteen minutes as the nation's most outspoken anti-LGBT organization is in full swing.  In the past few weeks, NOM has been behind the (much parodied) "Gathering Storm" advertisement, has rode the coattails of Miss California's marriage equality debacle, and has lobbied the Governor of New Hampshire hard to reject same-sex marriage legislation (we'll find out the result of that this week).

Scott_NC over at Pam's House Blend did a little digging into the financial history of IMAPP, and found that Maggie Gallagher raked in about $125,000 in 2007.  In terms of percentages, that's roughly 42 percent of IMAPP's budget for 2007.

Say what?!  The head of a non-profit paying themselves 42 percent of the organization's annual budget?   Is this woman running a non-profit or a ponzi scheme?

The more frightening part in all of this is that the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), has yet to release their required IRS 990 forms, so we have no idea how much Gallagher rakes in from that organization.  But if she's taking 42 percent of the organization's budget at IMAPP for her own personal salary, what's to say she's not doing the same over at NOM?

We all knew that Maggie Gallagher was irresponsible and dangerous when it came to the issue of civil rights.  Now we know the answer.  Her push to demonize same-sex marriage lines her pockets with plenty of cash.  Nothing sustains bigotry like the sweet smell of a paycheck.
