Marriage Equality USA and Candlelight Vigils Across California

Marriage Equality USA

We are one week away now (March 5) from the hearings on Proposition 8 in the California State Supreme Court, when the Court will decide on the validity of Prop 8 and whether marriages conducted during the six months that marriage was legal in California can be recognized by the state. It's huge. Real huge. And we're so glad to see Marriage Equality USA and Join the Impact organizing the masses to show support.

Candlelight vigils are being organized across the state of California for March 4 (the night before the hearings), and we'll include the locations of them after the jump below. Marriage Equality USA is also trying to raise $30,000 in order to put a Jumbotron television screen in Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco, where the LGBT community (and allies) can come watch the hearing, scheduled from 9am-12noon PST next Thursday. If you're interested in donating to this cause, visit www.firstgiving.com/supremecourtjumbotron.  You can also sign this pledge here on change.org to show your support for marriage equality in California.

As Molly McKay, Media Director for Marriage Equality USA said: "On the eve of justice, we're calling on Californians to march forth on March 4th in candlelight vigils to be held across the state in support of the Constitution's promise of equality for all. We invite supporters of marriage equality, their friends and families, and especially the 18,000 same-sex couples married last year, to join us in a showing of faith and support that love and justice will prevail."
